WHEN SHOULD YOU REPLACE GLOCK MAGAZINE SPRINGS?
Odds are that you will never have to replace the magazine springs in your Glock magazines. They seem to last forever. The Glock website and the Glock Armorer’s manual don’t mention how often your should replace your springs nor is it included in recommended maintenance.
Common sense dictates that it may be a good idea to have a few spare replacement magazine springs on hand just in case you get one that weakens over time and causes feeding problems. Some people that use their Glocks for service duty or law enforcement recommend changing their magazine springs every two thousand rounds or so (just to be on the safe side).

HOW TO REPLACE GLOCK MAGAZINE SPRINGS
Replacing springs is easy and only takes a few minutes (it can be done in seconds if you know what you are doing). The procedure can be found at Glock Magazine Disassembly & Cleaning.
OLD GLOCK MAGAZINE SPRING VERSES NEW GLOCK MAGAZINE SPRING
I compared an old Glock 19 magazine spring with a new one. The old spring was 3 years old and had about 3,000 rounds through it. This spring was 4 3/4″ long and I was able to easily hand load 15 rounds into the magazine with this spring installed. The new magazine spring measured 5 1/4″ long and when installed into the magazine I was only able to load 14 rounds into it. It felt a little bit stiffer than the old spring.
|After only one “use” of the new spring (one loading of 15 rounds) I re-measured the length of the spring and was surprised to find it had shrunk to 5″ (it had lost 1/4″ of height)|

Conclusion – Both the old spring and new spring still work fine. I will use the old spring and shoot at the range until (or if) the spring causes a malfunction. I will install the new magazine spring into my “carry magazine” or magazine that I use for self defense.
